mmmmmm...peas!!

He might not have thought so actually. Here's the first bite - he looks a little scared.

This was after the first bite when I was getting the second bite ready. He couldn't really figure it out...
This isn't the same as my usual bites, Mom!!

It was an interesting but messy experience.
He only ate a few bites of the peas, but managed to get them all over his face.

Well, it was a new flavor and texture. What did we really expect?

There is a reason he got to try peas a week before his 6 month birthday even though the dr told us to wait until he's six months old. When I was getting him ready for his dinnertime cereal I snapped the tray on the high chair and his finger somehow got caught. He started crying right away and I unsnapped it really fast, but his little finger swelled up and he wouldn't stop crying. We put some ice on it and gave him a little bit of Tylenol. He went to sleep about 10 minutes later but we felt so bad for the little guy that we got him the peas as a treat. So his second "major" accident was caused by me, just like the first one. :-(

some pics of the boy...

This only happened after MUCH rocking and walking and bouncing. He was so tired, but he doesn't like to just go to sleep anymore. He fights it with all his strength until he finally can't help himself. Poor little guy.

Here he is making an adorable face while playing in the exersaucer. He's really started liking it a lot. Pretty soon that pillow that's under his feet will be gone. He's getting so tall that he'll be able to reach the floor of it. He's such a big boy!!

If this isn't a sweet looking boy then I don't know what is! Check out that grin. What a cute pose, too.

Knitting Mama

This is Jasper. Yeah, he's a dog, but he was my first baby. He's a lab mix - we aren't sure what he's mixed with. We got him at the animal shelter January '05. His birthday is 5/5...maybe he'll get a pinata this year. He's about 60 pounds so he's pretty big, but he's very well behaved most of the time.

hey baby!

I got they keys to the car...wanna go for a ride?

He's got the whole world in his hands...

Oliver is getting to be more interested in the toys on the exersaucer. He likes the globe and the little wheels (blue, yellow, green at the front of the picture) because they make noise when you move them. Those wheels are actually the one he plays with the most. He also likes to "talk" to the sunshine, which is right behind the globe in this picture. It has a smiley face on it, which is probably why he wants to talk to it.

He's getting to be very active and very talkative. He naps only a few times a day for about 45 minutes each time. The rest of the time he's playing on his quilt, in his saucer, with Mommy or Daddy, or eating his bites. Actually, I put him in his high chair to play for a little while yesterday to let him practice sitting up. He played there for about 15 minutes before he got tired. He's so strong!!

But I don't want anymore!!

Here's the silly little guy eating up his bites. Actually at this point he had eaten all the bites he could handle and was getting cranky about having to sit up in his chair. I snapped this picture right before I washed off his dirty little face. He does really well eating up the bites. In a week and a half he gets to try some veggies! So exciting!!!

I can do it!!

Oliver is learning to use his hands better. He can pick up things that are not soft and aren't easy to grab (like rings and links). We practiced this today with some toys he got for Christmas from Aunt Rachael. Here he is holding a cowboy. He likes when the cowboy says "yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaawwwwwwwwwww!!"

I don't know why...

I thought I had posted some stuff a while back but apparently it was just saved as a draft. So anyway, here are some pictures. This first one is the set of books we got at Sam's. Oliver loves reading them (as you can tell from the previous post). The puppy and kitten are cloth and they rattle. The Elephant is a "touch and feel" book, the duck is vinyl and has a squeaker, and the sheep has shiny stuff in the pictures. It's fun to read these to Oliver and see how he reacts.

This pictures was really cute because he was laughing and covering his mouth up.

Here's one of a BIG smile. He usually stops smiling like this when I get the camera out.
I can't even remember what he was laughing at.

This is a picture of the cloth diapers we got. There are two each of twilight, butternut, and white. They each have a microfiber insert that is very absorbant. We've started using these instead of the disposables and it's working out very well so far.

This is the growth chart for Oliver's weight. Right now according to this he is in the 87th percentile.

This is the growth chart for Oliver's height. Right now according to this he is in the 94th percentile.

time is flying!!

Well, this month is almost over. I can't believe it! Oliver is going to be half a year old in a few weeks. I'm amazed at the little guy every day.

He's still eating up all his bites. I've gone to twice a day and started making more each time. He LOVES bites! He still follows each meal with some milk though.

He's got some bumps on his bottom gums. You know what that means...teeth! That'll be good except for two things...he's still breastfeeding and his cute little gummy smile will be all gone.

He rolled over again last night. He waited a good long while to do it since that first time, but last night took a lot less effort than the first time.

He's gotten better at grabbing and manipulating things with his hands. He almost always uses his thumb to grab now, unlike before when he'd just use his fingers. Needless to say he was always dropping things.

In other nonbaby news...we got our mattress! It is so wonderful. It feels so much bigger than the full size one we had before. Softer, too.

happy schmappy valentines day!

Yep, that's right...the day you confess your undying loooooove to your hubby/boyfriend/secret crush. So good luck with that.

It's also the day when you stuff yourself full of chocolates while snuggling on the couch with a giant stuffed bear, watching sappy old movies like "An Affair to Remember" or "Sleepless in Seattle". Good luck with that, too

I have to work tonight. Bob won't be home until I have to leave. We will see each other for about 10 minutes on Valentines day...thank you very much rooms to go!!!

On a happier note, Oliver and I have a new game. I lay on my back and put my knees up. He sits on my feet with his chest on my legs. I lift my legs up and down and he just squeals and giggles the whole time. We call it "flying". He loves it!!

He ate up all his bites today again. I made more today than I did yesterday and he sat up in his chair and ate them all up. He will even open his mouth for the spoon now!!

He's been napping in his bed for the last few days, but still won't sleep there at night. I tried last night and every time I put him in the bed he'd wake up and want to play. AAH!! I was so tired and frustrated that after 3 tries I again let him sleep in our bed. I tried though, I really did. I even let him fuss for longer this time than last time to see if he'd settle himself. It didn't work. (Rachael, if you are reading this, then in your head it should sound like geordi in that game...hehehehe)

We get our new mattress tomorrow!! I'm so excited but then I realized we still have no sheets for it. Maybe that's what I'll use my money for. I dunno, we'll see.

stupid upgrade

I couldn't log in to post this without upgrading to the "new blogger". So now hopefully it will just leave me alone about it already!

Gerber baby...

Isn't this the perfect Gerber Baby face??

a few pictures...

Oliver is getting very independent. He likes to hold the bottle when he eats, and tries to take the spoon when I give him bites. (we call cereal "bites") We're giving him bites twice a day now!!
Here is Oliver reading the instructions to ...his new high chair!! It's actually a portable one - it straps to a regular chair - but we thought it would be ok to use all the time. We're also going to use it to help him learn to sit up. Hooray for multi-use items!!
Here's a front view.
Here is Oliver playing peacefully in his exersaucer while Jasper "guards" him to make sure he's ok. Some guard dog, huh?

Extra money...

What to do?? We got our tax refund and there was enough money to pay bills and have some left over. Bob said we could each have $100 to do whatever we wanted with. Oliver spent his on cloth diapers...we should get those in a few weeks. Bob is getting a weight bench with his, and some other things too, but that's the major purchase. As for me, I have NO idea what to get. There's nothing that I really want right now. I could get some new clothes, but that's in the budget so I don't have to spend my fun money on that. I have NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO idea!!

A few pictures...

He might look like he's excited about the toys, but he's looking at Daddy!!
He likes playing in this though, it helps strengthen his legs and he loves spinning around and around in that seat.
Here he is standing up with Daddy. He's such a big boy! (I love those dino jammies)
Here he is playing on his Nanny quilt. His two favorite things, the quilt and Spike.

laughter...

I forgot to mention that he is laughing a lot more now too. When I got home yesterday I was "eating" his cheeks and he thought it was hilarious!! I love hearing him laugh.

Also, he's become a squealer. He shreaks and squeals in a VERY high pitched voice when he's excited or happy.

5 months old!!!

Oliver is 5 months old now. He's getting so big and grown up! Today he rolled over for the first time all by himself!! HOOOOOOORAAYYYYYYYYYY!!! I just happened to be recording him with my camera phone at the time so I have it on video!! I don't know how to transfer it to the computer though. I'll have to see if Bob does.
He's also been awake a lot more. He's down the about 3 naps a day for about 45 minutes to an hour. In between naps he loves playing. He's getting really good at grabbing things and getting them in his mouth. Just a few weeks ago he would try to put it in his mouth however it was in his hand, but now he's turning it so that it goes IN his mouth not just in front of it. He plays in his exersaucer a few times a day, usually for about 10 or 15 minutes each time. That's all he can stand so far but he's getting better every day.
He's eating cereal once a day, about 10 bites or so each time. That isn't that much cereal I guess, but he likes it! We usually do that around noon and then follow up with some milk and a nap.
He loves loves loves to stand up. He'll stand up in your lap, or on the floor, or pretty much anywhere. He can stand for a second or two by himself if you just keep your hands hovering on either side to catch him when he starts to topple over.
His tummy time is much improved too. He holds his head up and looks all around. He is even grabbing at things when he's holding himself up.
For a while now he's been able to recognize the bottle and he opens his mouth to get it.
We tried moving him into his own bed. We moved the crib into our room so that he can still see/hear us but he's in his bed so he can get used to it. Well, I fed him and rocked him to sleep and put him in his bed. I crept into bed and layed down and started to drift off, but he woke up and started to fuss. I let him fuss for about 5 minutes before I got up and rocked him back to sleep and put him back in his bed. Just as I got comfortable he started fussing again. I let him fuss for a few minutes until it turned into real crying. I got up and rocked him back to sleep and put him back in bed. I waited a few minutes to make sure he was ok before going back to bed. A few seconds later he woke up and started crying and crying and crying. I got up and this time it took about 20 minutes or so to get him calmed down. I figured three strikes, and put him back in our bed for the rest of the night. We're going to keep trying to do this every night until he can sleep in his own bed.

Going to church...

This is Oliver dressed up to go to church for the first time. We haven't been since we found out we were pregnant and finally my work schedule allowed us to go. We sat in the back next to the nursery just in case he didn't behave well. Fortunately he did great - he played and looked around during the songs and then when the message started he settled down with a bottle and went to sleep. What a good little boy!
Also, the pastor (David) remembered us - he even remembered my name! - and was very excited to see us. He's the one that married us 2 years, 5 months, 2 days ago. We didn't get to stay for the whole service because I had to be to work at 12 but it was good to go back. Posted by Picasa

playing!

Here are a few shots that Bob took of Oliver playing. He loooooves these rings. He chews on them day and night. We have a set in his bed, in our bed, and in the living room.
Here's Oliver playing happily in his exersaucer. He kind of ignores the toys right now except every once in a while. What he really likes is spinning around and around in that seat.
