The batteries on my camera are dead

I am so disappointed that I couldn't get a picture of Oliver in his Hawaiian shirt today. I tried, but the batteries died and I couldn't find any more. So I'll have to wash it and have him wear it again very soon! Thank you Aunt Rachael for the adorable outfits you got for him!!!!!

Bob is out with the boys tonight so I'm home all by myself. Oliver went to sleep - he only had a few very short naps today - and Jasper's in there to keep an eye on him. I'm sitting here blogging, but when I'm done I have no idea what I want to do. I'm tired, but I don't feel ready for bed yet.

Bob and Dolly came over today on their way home. They played with Oliver and Bob helped (my) Bob put in the new bathroom fan/light. It looks super! However the duct or vent or whatever goes straight out to the roof so this whole time the heat has been escaping like mad through that vent!! Hopefully with the new fan and stuff in place our gas bill won't be so outrageous next winter. We're still trying to figure out exactly what to do with the bathrooms. We know we want to get rid of the cabinet that goes between them, but other than that we have no idea. I'd really like more counter space in "my" bathroom. Well, more counter space in both would actually be a good thing.

We finally got rid of the old sofa. We tried to give it away but no one wanted it so Bob dropped it off in an apartment complex in the hopes that someone would pick it up and use it. It was a good sofa for a long time and I hate that it might just get thrown away. We just didn't have any room for it, though.

sharing the cuteness

This is what Oliver does when he's trying to get something that's in front of him, but out of his reach. He's starting to learn to coordinate his arms and legs to move forward. In this picture he's just sticking his little rear end up in the air but he did eventually scooch himself forward far enough to get that toy that you can see at the edge of the picture.

I couldn't resist posting these next two pictures because this is one adorable little man. I mean look at those eyes! He's such a flirt, too. We went to the store today and he was making eyes at all the ladies. Of course, they were drawn in by his charm and they all wanted to talk to him and tell him how handsome he is. They couldn't resist!

Speaking of going to the store, we ended up getting a couple of pairs of shorts for him since he only has 2 pairs (the two that Aunt Rachael got him) and they are both a bit snug! I'm not sure if they run small or what, but he wore one pair and they were really short on him. I'm pretty sure they'll last through the summer, though. At least I hope they will. Anyway, one khaki pair and one navy pair. They are really cute! He wore his new Hawaiian shirt today and he looked super snazzy. I'll have to take pictures later when he's awake.

I miss my family...

It's been about 6 years or so since I moved away from my family. I live about 3 hours from them, but they all live in one city except for my dad. I miss being able to see them whenever I want to. I miss all the goofy outings we used to have. I'm a little sad every time someone has a party and I can't go because I have to work or we can't afford to travel. I've missed out on a lot of things these last few years and it sucks. I would love it if we could just pick up and drive out all the time, but we can't. I would love it if I could just call up my sisters and say "let's meet for lunch" and not have to add "in a few weeks" onto the end of the sentence. I miss all the time we used to spend playing games and hanging out just talking. I MISS IT!!!

I hate missing out on shopping trips and birthdays and trips to the zoo or museum or whatever. It's never that I don't want to go. I have obligations - to work and to my family here. That's why it hurts my feelings so much when everyone plans on doing something and I'm not invited. If I know about it in advance I can plan. I can take the time off work or figure something out. I want to be a part of all the fun things. If I say I can't go this time it doesn't mean that you shouldn't ask me next time.

I know I chose to move and that I choose not to move back. It's hard. I have so much going on here that it would be hard to move away. We both have jobs we like, we have a house, we have friends. We like our life here, but that doesn't mean that it's not hard to be so far from everyone.

car seat woes...

Oliver's car seat straps were rubbing on his neck and making big red marks. We looked and looked everywhere to find these little "wings" and finally found them at Babies R Us. They just snap on around the straps, super easy! They're padded a little bit and the fabric is fuzzy and soft. You can't really tell in the picture but one has a bear playing drums and one has a kitty playing a horn. They are the same little animals that are on his bouncy chair. Oliver hates his car seat a little less now.

is this any good?

has anyone tried one of these? I want to try them but I'm afraid the mesh will break or that it will be too messy.

I get to have my wisdom teeth taken out next month! All four, plus one other tooth that they said I could either get out or get a root canal. Hmmm...hard choice. So May 25th I will be having a good old time at the dentist's office. I had my teeth cleaned on Monday and I only had one cavity despite my poor flossing habits. The hygienist was very impressed. After this it's Bob's turn to see a doctor. We take turns going to get things taken care of. I've been to the dentist and eye doctor this year and he hasn't been to any! So he can choose if he wants to go to the eye doctor or the dentist or get a physical.

ready for safari!

Oliver got this outfit from Aunt Rachael. He looked so cute in it today! We had to take him out "on safari" since he looked ready for it. He enjoyed looking at and touching the flowers.

big boy!

He's so long!! Bob took this picture from above (see his feet at the bottom?). Oliver loves playing in his boppy, really he loves playing anywhere I suppose.

gel...

Bob put gel in Oliver's hair and spiked it up all over the place. He didn't seem to mind, though. It actually looked kind of cute. I washed it out in his bath a few minutes later.

a few new pictures

Oliver is getting really good at sitting up! He's very smiley and playful. I love the face he's making in this picture.

Here's Oliver looking VERY grown up in his Hawaiian shirt. He wore it on one of the warm days we had. He looked super spiffy!

Here he is eating some pears and blueberries. Look! He's feeding himself!
