not much...

I don't have much to post about just now, but Oliver is sleeping and I've pretty much cleaned up. Bob's dad is coming over today to do some stuff around the house. They are going to put a light switch in the laundry room to replace the stupid cord that I can never get to work - hooray! Other than that I don't know.

It's cold in the house. It looks sunny outside, I wonder if it's warmer out there than it is in here. It was yesterday.

Oliver is all congested again. I'm almost over the cold I had - I hope I didn't give it to him. I've been very careful about washing my hands and not touching anything that's going in his mouth. Also, not smooching him - TORTURE! I think that I did give my cold to Bob...sorry honey!

Jasper got groomed yesterday and he looks super. They didn't put a bandana on him like they usually do, but he still looked nice. He smells way better, too. We had to get him a new leash since he broke his other one when we were in WV.

I need to go to the craft store and get supplies to make Oliver a stocking. I made one for Jasper last year, and Bob has one that I made from the first year we had Christmas together, I think. I'm not sure where we'll hang them since we don't have a fireplace this year. I'm sure Bob will think of something.

looking back...

I've been sitting here for a while reading all the old posts on my (older) sister's blog. It's kind of fun to look back and see what was going on last year. I might have to find time to look back at my old posts to see how much everything has changed since I started blogging in February '05. That's almost two years ago! Wow, how time flies.

I also figured out how to put links to my favorite places on the side over there. Yay!

Thanksgiving trip...

I started writing a big long detailed post about our trip for Thanksgiving, but I stopped because I couldn't remember some of the details. So here's the short version.

We went to WV. Oliver did great in the car except for a "poopsplosion" on the way up. Jasper did ok, but threw up twice. We had Thanksgiving with about 30 people. We ate by candlelight because the power went out just before we ate. Oliver got overwhelmed and cried for two hours the first night we were there. We spent some time with Chris (uncle hedgehog), eating and shopping and just generally hanging out. Oliver got some new outfits and I got some new pants. We got to spend a little bit of time with Birch and Gretchen when they got back on Sunday. We left Monday and when we got home pretty much just sat around the rest of the day recovering from the trip. Oliver slept most of the trip back, so did Jasper, so did I. I got a cold while we were there, luckily I didn't give it to Oliver (yet, anyway)...I'm almost over it today.

I go back to work on Sunday. I'm not excited about it. I'm only going back part time, and will only be gone when Bob is here. I still hate it. We'll see how it goes though. The Christmas party is on 12-10. I'm not sure I'll be going, but we'll see about that too. Bob doesn't want to go. I don't really want to leave Oliver to go party for 4 hours. Maybe I'll just stop by or something. We'll see. I got invited to another party on the Friday before that. Joey, a salesperson at RTG, is having a party. He and his wife had a baby (Ava)about a month before Oliver and we were comparing notes today. Oliver weighs more than Ava! They are all doing well though, and Whitney (Joey's wife) is quitting her job to stay home with the baby. Hooray for her!

I'm hoping to have some visitors for Christmas or at least in December. My mom said she was probably coming up. I'm having a superbowl party at my house whenever the superbowl is and I'm hoping to have a better turnout this year than last. Last year only 4 people were there, and two of them were me and Bob.

I guess that's all for now because the boy's waking up and I'm trying to make dinner for Bob.

I love when he smiles. His fat little cheeks are so cute!

More pictures...

Look at that cool toy! Oliver liked it, but I loved it. When you move it any way it makes a very soothing sound...like rain...but it's just beads and bells. Probably not age appropriate yet, but we had fun playing with it anyway.

neighborly spirit

Since we've moved in here most of the neighbors have come over to say hi and welcome us to the neighborhood. Today though, it was a little different. About 1 in the afternoon the doorbell rang. I answered the door (in my cow spotted pajama top and pink lounging pants with monkeys on them) and there was a little old lady. She said she lived across the street and wanted to welcome us to the neighborhood by bringing by one of her homemade fruitcakes. WOW! She was very nice and she stayed to chat for a few minutes before going back home. It was very old fashioned of her to bring sweet goodies to welcome us - but I liked it.
I'm eating a slice of the cake now, and I must say...fruitcake is disgusting! It's too sweet and kind of soggy. I feel bad saying that because she was so nice to make a cake and bring it over. :( I hope Bob likes it.

the agony!

I was organizing Oliver's dresser when I realized that some of his clothes don't fit him anymore! I was sorting them out, but I got so upset and started to cry because he's getting so big :( I found the shirt they gave him in the hospital and it was so tiny...I put it in his keepsake box so he can have it when he's older. Anyway, it made me sad to put away some of the things he used to wear. His favorite shirt that has a fire truck and says "this is a fire truck, it goes we-ooh we-ooh" is too small for him now.

We went for a visit to Nanny and Pappy's house and got to meet Aunt Angie, Ethan (cousin), Eleanor (cousin), Aunt Cheryl, Tyler (cousin), Kelsie (cousin), and Jordyn (cousin). He was fussy or sleeping most of the time. Most of the rest of the time he was eating. I guess he was nervous in a new place with a bunch of people. By the time we left though he was more relaxed and was awake looking around at everyone. He gave everyone hugs when we left (as much as a baby can hug) and gave Jordyn a kiss (well he opened his mouth and put it against her cheek...that's a baby kiss in my opinion) He did really well on his first long car ride (about an hour and a half) - he slept the whole way except for on the way there he woke up and ate a little bit. Hopefully that's a good sign that he'll do ok next week. Pictures will be posted later.

2 month checkup

Oliver had his two month checkup today. He cried practically the whole time...and he hardly ever cries. First the doctor tried to pull a piece of skin off where his circumcision was done a little weird. He definately didn't like that!! The she checked his hips, which he never likes. After she finished her exam he had to get 5 vaccinations! Luckily one was liquid and he got to drink it, but the rest were shots. He got one in his left leg, two in his right, and one in his right arm. He screamed and screamed. I can't understand how the nurse does it! I cried the whole time, too, because when she did the first one he looked up at me like "Mom, why are you letting her hurt me?" It broke my heart and I hated it terribly. When we got home he just slept for a long time. When he woke up he was hungry so I went ahead and gave him a dose of Tylenol (per the dr, to keep down fever if he gets one) and fed him. He fell asleep again immediately after and slept for a few hours before he was hungry again. Pretty much he's slept the whole time since we got home except when he woke up and cried for about 30 minutes. Poor little guy. :(
He hasn't gotten a fever yet, so hopefully he won't.

some new outfits

This one isn't new, he got it at one of his showers. He just now fits into it though, and isn't it cute! He looks like a little jailbird.

This is one of the shirts he got for his 2 month birthday. Bob picked it out. I'm not sure you can tell in the picture here, but it says "Hi. I'm new here"

This is one of the outfits that Birch and Gretchen made for him. I think it looked really cute, even though the pants were really long on him.

So much going on!

We've really started getting settled in the new house. Bob fixed the second bathroom in time for our visitors this weekend. Jason and Ani came down from Maryland to visit and see Oliver for the first time. We had lots of fun with them, even though we mostly just hung around the house. As it was Ani's first visit to NC we had to take her to see the big dresser and ended up going to see the big chair and the other big dresser, too. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.
Oliver has a dr's appointment tomorrow to get his second round of immunizations. I'm not looking forward to it since he gets 4 shots this time. She also said that he will probably get a fever after this round. I've already got the baby Motrin ready. Poor Oliver. :( ...I'll post details of the appointment tomorrow as well.
I'm still waiting on Halloween pictures! Maybe I'll just put the costume back on him and take pictures myself. That might be easier than waiting around. So maybe those will be here tomorrow as well.
I think that's it for now, and it's terribly late so I'm going to bed.

Happy 2 month birthday!!

Oliver is 2 months old today! He's growing so fast I can hardly keep up. He's in some of his 3-6 month clothes! So much has been going on lately with the move and lots of visitors, but Oliver has still had time to learn lots of new things and grow up big and strong. Here are some of the things he can do:

Hold his head up when in a sitting position
tries to stand, when supported he can hold weight on his legs for a few seconds
swats and grabs at toys
does "pushups" when he's on his tummy
holds his head up and looks around when on his tummy
eats a lot more, about 4 1/2 to 5 ounces from a bottle
stays awake for a few hours at a time
Smiles - they're the best!
laughs - rarely, but he does it
makes lots of noises (not crying)
follow an object when moved from side to side
respond to voices/sounds, turning his head to look (sometimes)

Overall I think he's doing very well for his age, especially for a "preemie". They warned me at the hospital that his development may not be right on schedule for his age because he was born early. Well he has proved them wrong, I think!

We're working on getting him to sleep in his own bed, too. Last night he slept in his bed until about 3:30. I fed him twice before that and put him back to bed after each time. Daddy fed him at 3:30 and just slept on the couch with him until 5:30. So much for that lesson, huh? I guess it's ok though. I knew it would be a gradual transition to sleeping alone.

Spending all day with Oliver is wonderful. He's fun to play with and he gives the best snuggles. I'm so glad that he's here!

HAPPY TWO MONTH BIRTHDAY, OLIVER!!
